Your Beginner Makeup Kit

People generally consider makeup as some sort of mask to cover up or hide their natural features. But for most of the girls, including me, makeup is a small part of their daily me time which enables them to start their day with a clear mind.

When I mention the effort makeup takes, people usually reply saying that you look pretty without makeup and you don’t need it. Well I agree, I don’t consider makeup as a necessity in terms of looks because I know that it is not what makes me beautiful.

The reason I wear makeup is not to feel more beautiful or impress others but I do so in order to express myself and it is not only me! Fun fact about makeup – you can usually comprehend the person’s mood on what shade they are wearing.

As we all know self-care is taking out time off your busy routine to do something just for yourself. As someone who often gives more importance to other’s needs than my own, I usually tend to neglect self-care. It’s not that I feel I’m not worthy of self-care but I often end up not allocating time for it.

In this busy life of mine makeup serves as my form of self-care, it helps me feel calm. I have never been much of an artist with my hands but when it comes to makeup, creativity just flows in. Doing makeup reduces my stress and also gives me a boost of confidence when it comes to creativity.

As a person who regularly applies makeup and has a pretty good knowledge about it (a little show off isn’t bad, is it?) I’m creating a list of the basic makeup essentials that I feel as a beginner you must have in your go-to makeup kit.

To set the perfect base:

For the base I usually prefer a liquid foundation (make sure that it is true to your skin tone) with a medium coverage. There are a lot of available options from cream foundations to loose powders but I generally prefer a combination of liquid foundation and a slight brush of compact for the final touch.

The next requirement for your foundational make up is the concealer. Again, make sure that it matches your skin tone. I would recommend to not use a concealer if there isn’t much of a requirement because avoiding it gives your makeup a little natural feel. I personally have never used a concealer as I never felt much need for it.

Next comes my favorite part of the base. The blush! If makeup is a dish then blush works as salt for me. It is what adds color to your face as a whole (apart from your eyes and lips). As someone with a medium skin tone I prefer a slightly orangish pink shade when it comes to blushes. And trust me girls, it can never go wrong!

Contour and highlights are the new trend so I would suggest that add those in your makeup kit if it’s not too much (It isn’t right? Well not for me at least).

Coming to the eyes:

So this is your personal canvas and you can now let that brush flow. Eyeshadow palettes can never be enough, I personally own about 6 palettes apart from the separate standalone shades (I like being creative with the eyes). But for a basic beginner’s kit all you need is one nude eyeshadow palette and you’re good to go.

A painting is never complete without the borders so how can your eyes be complete without that perfect winged liner? I personally prefer extra matte liners but you can opt for other options as well.

And the final touch your eyes require is that dark stroke of mascara and what’s best, you can get colourful with it too! I personally prefer pitch black but go ahead and try different colours. I’m planning to purchase a blue mascara for myself too.

Finally the lips:

I feel a lipstick can never go wrong. It goes with any style as opposed to a gloss. Sometimes though you’re in the mood of a gloss and you can’t help it so it is better that you have both in

your kit. Must have lipstick shades: red, brown and nude.

All of these products are what I feel as a beginner you should have in your kit. So grab these products and get creative!

I'm adding a few links of the products I feel are a must have; go ahead and check them out!
