The Key to a Balanced Life

Before you start reading this blog take a moment, breathe and think of everything you have done today. I’m pretty sure that by the time you recollect all of them you must be feeling completely drained and the reason behind this is that one thing which you forgot to add in your busy schedule.

If you haven’t guessed it yet I am talking about self-care. As easy and light self-care sounds it’s often something that we all overlook while setting our priorities. Our daily schedule is getting busier and busier but that doesn’t imply that we compensate our self-care time.

We’ve heard about self-care, we all know that it is important and we may even know a couple of things that we should do for ‘self-care’. But something we all wonder is, “Do I have the time for it?” and I’m not denying the validity of the question considering our growing list of commitments.

We all find ourselves so generously giving to others all day long be it our work place, our friends, or even our home and many of us consistently tend to forget prioritizing self-care. Usually the items that are last on your list are the ones you most easily tend to skip and that is what leads to us neglecting self-care.

Let’s dive into how important self-care is and how it affects your health.

Self-care integrates your life with self-compassion in a way that helps prevent even the slightest chance of an exhaustion or a breakdown.

Next time you feel like not attending that dinner party, feel free to say no and give more importance to what you feel like doing than what others expect you to do. When you’ll learn how to say no to things that over-exert you and make time for things that matter to you, you’ll be able to focus more on your goals and at the same time live your life fully.

Research proves that self-care activities activate the parasympathetic division of your nervous system and this helps in fortifying your immune system as it shifts your body into the resting, rejuvenating mode.

When you regularly take out time for yourself (keep in mind to avoid that inner critical voice of yours), you send a positive message to your subconscious because you’re treating yourself as someone who has intrinsic value.

Practicing self-care also helps you figure out what you’re passionate about, what inspires you, and who you are as a person. So all you folks who are confused about your career options lately, take out the time to know yourself because this can spark a change in your career options.

Today sit back and decide on a self-care practice that you’ll include in your daily schedule. Give it a few weeks and you’ll wonder how you ever managed to survive without it!
